Why I am a Green Party Candidate - A Moral Obligation
And then one day, it hit me like a bolt of lightning - When my first grandson was born. I had never honestly asked myself if I was making the world a better place or if I was making a difference? I just assumed that I did. I just assumed that my children and my grandchildren would have a great future. We always want and expect our offsprings to have at least as good a life as we are having. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. But instead, what I now realize is that humanity was overdrawing on our ecological savings account. There is a strong likelihood that my grandchildren lives will degrade. One step which I undertook was to join the Green Party in 2006, still searching for answers. I found that the Green Party platform is unique in addressing my concerns. When I look into my grandson’s eyes, I see: innocence, potentiality, trust and confidence. I see the future as it should be.
The next generation will blame us for having been asleep at the wheel. A lot of the problems we are passing on were created on our watch. What will I answer when I am asked why this has happened? What were we thinking of? How could I have let this happen? These questions haunt me! The Green Movement holds a Vision of the World as a better place This is why I have chosen to run as a candidate for the Green Party in this election.

Shortly after I retired, I began to have this uneasy feeling that in spite of my good fortune, things were not right. I felt uneasy, a certain dis-ease. Then I spent the next few years reading, researching and reflecting on life, trying to get to the bottom of that strange feeling. I could sense that there was something wrong. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
When he looks into my eyes, I wonder if he sees my guilt, the guilt of my generation, of having let him down. I wonder if he sees the sadness, my anguish, my concern, and my fears?
